Santa Marta

I found this goddess in a Santoria shop in Little Havana, a Cuban neighborhood in Miami, Florida. The owner told me that Santa Marta protects children.

I later saw the same image as a larger fabric and sequined statue, also called Santa Marta, at a Voodou exhibit at the Met in New York. If you know more about her, tell me!

A Santoria sells saintly supplies to Catholic/Voodou customers. Picture a small dusty shop with floor to ceiling shelves stuffed with good luck charms, tarot cards, herbs, oils, incense and candles for love or prosperity spells, Virgin Mary's and bloody crucifixes.

I made her look magic in Adobe Photoshop.
